July 2023 (Redwoods and Start of School)

For the summer, I bought a piano app for Axel to help with piano lessons, and Felix wanted to try. He could follow the first few lessons pretty well!

We went down to Gramma's house to use her neighborhoods' pool. Ivy made sure the goggles worked, haha.

Helping Daddy with his minifigures.

Felix loves to ride his bike in laps around the backyard.

And at the park.

Finally cleaning out the car after our roadtrip, I found a treasure trove of jelly beans.

Ivy saying "no" and not wanting Daddy to put her down.

We decided to do one last fun summer activity before school started. We have very short summer breaks here. We picked driving down to Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, near Santa Cruz. First we did a hike, and then rode an old steam train through the redwoods.

We brought flashlights so the kids could go into the hollow trees. Felix was a big fan.

Can you see Jeff and the kids through the tree?

Felix didn't want to be in the picture with the tallest tree in that forest, so he offered to take the picture.

The train took us a bit farther into the woods. It was murderously hot that day, like abnormally high for the area. We survived though.

Three asleep kids on our way to the beach.

Since we were right near Santa Cruz, we decided to go to the boardwalk. After spending over an hour just trying to get into Santa Cruz (should have been 15 minutes), we bailed and picked a beach slightly north, called Natural Bridges. We were able to find parking pretty quickly, and it was really nice there.

Jeff got to wear his Ninja Turtles shirt to see the new movie.

Felix again refused to be in the picture, so he took the picture of the rest of us.

"Here comes the Sin" at the local Starbucks-in-the-Target.

Ivy stole Daddy's work gloves to help drive her car.

I took Felix to Kindergarten preview. He did great, until it was time to leave and go to Axel's class's preview. Then he had a cow (didnt' want to stop playing on the playground), but also refused to leave without taking his picture with the sign.

Then he refused to leave the sign until I took a picture of him smiling. (There was quite a line of other Kindergarteners after us). Oh Felix, why are you so hard sometimes?

Ivy started pulling her hair while falling asleep, and ended up with a bald spot.

I sewed Axel's old socks to the ends of her pajamas to keep her from pulling her hair.

I took the kids to the splashpad. Ivy wasn't a fan of getting wet, but still had a good time.

Ivy is such a good walker now! She looks like a pro!

Felix had 2 puke days in a row. No fun. They are luckily getting less frequent.

Ivy and Axel cashing in on the extra screen time.

While I took care of Felix, Ivy had some time to get into mischief.

I found the poor kid like this the next morning, and he was sick all over again. Argh!

As usual, he was feeling better by the afternoon.

Felix breaking a board with a back kick.

Water bottle stealer.

First day of school! Kindergarten and 5th Grade.

Felix went right into class, no problems. Phew!

Showing off his coloring after school.

Axel's "All About Me" he filled out at school. We had to have a chat after this one, yikes...

Sewing round-up.

I wanted to try to make a onesie, so I made this cute dress for Ivy.

It has a onesie attached. The snaps were giving me major problems, but she can still wear it. You just have to be careful unsnapping it.

Made a onesie for impending nephew on the D side. Had problems with the snaps again.

So I decided to chop it off and turn it into a shirt.

The final product turned out so cute!
